“It smells like datacenter in here” were the words that left my mouth when I entered my garden shed / office. If you know, you know. Datacenters have a distinct small to them. I was inside a few of them in my lifetime and if you put me blindfolded (and probably deaf) into one I could tell you were I am just by the smell. I cant quite pinpoint what it smells like exactly but if I had to describe it I would say it is a mix of electronics, warm metal and heated air. Which in turn makes sense as most datacenters are build with quite a lot of these materials. Watercooled datacenters on the other hand have a little bit of a different smell to them. They smell like a regular one but with a tad of chlorine or lake water on top.

Why did I tell you how a datacenter smells? I dont know. You are the reader. I just find it fascinating that a building can have a distinct smell. Oh and maybe I should tell you why it smells like this in there. I bought new/more GPUs and PSUs … more electronics, more powerconsumption, more fizzling smells in the air.
